The importance of getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is that it is still the most effective way to protect yourself amidst the coronavirus pandemic. They offer protection for our bodies to stop the spread and transmission of the virus. In the long run, this will cause the decline and eventual eradication of the coronavirus. Billions of people would avoid sickness, hospitalization, or even death.

Why get the COVID-19 vaccine?

When you get injected with the vaccine, you produce antibodies that will help your immune system fight the coronavirus. While it is true that you can still get COVID even though you have been vaccinated, the chances are reduced when "herd immunity" has been reached. Herd immunity is when most of the population have been vaccinated, the risk of COVID-19 decreases or is eradicated. The vaccine will also help pregnant mothers and their babies. The effectiveness of the vaccine can be passed from the mother to the unborn baby, thus protecting both of them. The vaccine prevents severe illness. While vaccinated people can still be infected, the vaccine can guarantee a lower likelihood of hospitalization or death. At most, you may only get a mild or moderate case of COVID.

Is the COVID-19 vaccine safe?

It is safe. COVID-19 vaccine basics depended on the technology and science that have been shaped for decades. The vaccine is not an experiment and you are far from being a guinea pig. Every vaccine undergoes rigorous trials before it passes as a viable medicine for humanity. The deliberate hard work of scientists and medical professionals makes sure that the vaccines are safe and effective. Even until now, the vaccines are being tested and monitored for their effectiveness. The benefits of getting the COVID-19 vaccine outweigh the mild side effects of the vaccine that may come with it. For side effects, you may get aches or a mild fever gone after 36 hours.

Variants of COVID-19

To shield yourself from new variants like Delta, it's good to wear a mask indoors or in public to avoid getting the virus in a place with great transmission. The Delta variant spreads and transmits faster than the regular strain of coronavirus, causing a more severe form of COVID especially in the unvaccinated. However, vaccines can stop hospitalizations or death even with the Delta variant. If you're fully vaccinated and you get infected by Delta, you will be infectious for a shorter period of time. The best course of action is to get vaccinated and wear a mask indoors to stop the spread of Delta.
