7 Tips for a Healthier Heart

It’s time for you to be concerned with your heart health! No one’s too young or too old when it comes to proper heart care. Listed below are tips on how you can look after your body’s most vital organ – your heart.

  1. Active Lifestyle
  • All sorts of exercise can be good for the body. Exercise keeps the body fit, acts as a mood booster, and reduces the risk of having heart disease. It is advised that adults need at least 30 minutes of exercise every day while a minimum of 60 minutes for kids and teens. One may choose which type of workout is best fit for your body.
  1. Healthy Diet
  • Reduce bad fats – Saturated fats aka “bad fats” increases one’s cholesterol levels in the blood which can cause blockage in the heart’s arteries.  It is highly recommended to keep a low-fat diet to balance your cholesterol levels.
  • Lower your salt intake by lessening one’s processed food intake.
  • Invest in whole grains – Whole grains such as oats, cereal, bread, and brown rice can help lower one’s blood pressure and cholesterol level.
  1. “5-a-day” Rule
  • One should at least have five portions of fruits and vegetables (good source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals) in a day.
  1. Stop Smoking!
  • Smoking is considered as one of the causes of coronary heart diseases.
  1. Maintain a Healthy Body Weight
  • Being overweight and obese will increase the risk for high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke.
  1. Reduce Alcohol Intake
  • Heavy drinking causes the heart muscles to weaken. So if the heart muscles are weak, it cannot pump the blood efficiently which results to an unhealthy heart.
  1. Have your Health Check by a Doctor
  • Schedule your regular checkup not just for the heart, but also for your overall physical health.
