Canker sores or popularly known as “singaw” are one of the most common inflammatory conditions of the mouth. It is a crater-like ulcer inside the mouth. Although canker sores require no treatment for they heal on their own, having one is really painful. You might have difficulty in eating, drinking, or opening your mouth. But don’t you worry for there are ways for you to get rid of your painful canker sores and speed up its healing.

  1. Aloe vera
  • Aloe vera has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties which makes it very effective to cure, soothe the pain, and speed up the healing process. You can buy Aloe vera gel or juice from the market.
    • Apply aloe vera gel directly on the canker sore or “singaw”. Do this several times a day.
    • You can also rinse your mouth with aloe vera juice about 3-4 times a day.

  • Coriander contains anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and anti-fungal properties that will help relieve the pain caused by canker sores or “singaw”.
    • Boil some coriander leaves and strain the solution.
    • Wait for the water to cool down.
    • Gargle or rinse with it for at least 3-4 times a day.

  • This is the most common and easiest way to cure canker sores or “singaw”. Salt will help draw the fluid from a canker sore, speed up the healing process, and help disinfect your mouth.
    • Mix a teaspoon of salt in a cup of lukewarm water, and stir well.
    • Rinse your mouth with it for at least 30 seconds.
    • Another option is to apply salt directly on the canker sore or “singaw”, which will speed up its healing process.
  1. Hydrogen peroxide
  • Just like the previously stated remedies, hydrogen peroxide has antiseptic properties. For treating canker sores or “singaw”, you will need 3% hydrogen peroxide which you can easily find on the market.
    • Mix a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide and a teaspoon of water.
    • Use a cotton ball to apply it directly on the canker sore or “singaw”.
    • Do this 2-4 times a day.
  1. Onion
  • Onions, which contain sulfur, help heal canker sores or “singaw”, reduce pain and inflammation.
    • Cut an onion into small pieces then apply it directly on the canker sore or “singaw”.
    • Make sure the juice of the onion gets absorbed by the canker sore or “singaw”.
    • Do this 3-4 times a day.
